Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month

posted by Dana Silvey

October has been Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month. In this post we want to remember those that we have lost through miscarriages. Our journey was a hard one and we still do not know all the reasons for God's purpose in it all, but we trust by faith His perfect will.

Below is a journal entry I did about six years ago to remember our little ones:

                      August 23, 2010                                                                Monday

I just recently read a book "I Will Carry You" by Angie Smith. It was
their journey of delivering a baby that only lived 2 1/2 hours. It made
me think again of our own little ones who did not survive. I want to
always remember them, especially their names and the day I birthed
                 them.

                        Luke Jeremiah - November 5, 2008 (23 weeks)
                             Levi James - March 30, 2009 (11 weeks)
                             Joel David - February 22, 2010 (15 weeks)

Plus there are two others we know of but there was not an actual
body to hold. The first one was July 18, 2004 (2 weeks) and the next
was October 26, 2007 (8 weeks). Even though we did not know if these
two were a boy or girl, they were still perfectly made and formed by
God. There was life there even though we didn't see it with our eyes.

If you have lost an infant or had a loss through miscarriage, I want to say that I am very sorry for your loss. Some people say that miscarriage is not a loss, but we know that life begins at conception. I would love to hear your own personal story about any loss you have had.

"For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother's womb.
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.
My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret,
and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.
And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me,
when as yet there were none of them."
-Psalm 139: 13-16

The blessing I received when my washer broke . . .

                                                                  by Dana Silvey

On Monday of this week our washing machine belt broke.  At first I was anxious about how I was going to wash clothes until we could get a new belt, but I have always had a desire to wash clothes the old fashioned way.  So Tuesday morning we set up a place outside to wash our clothes.  Sarah, Grace, and I actually had fun hand washing the clothes.

I woke up Wednesday morning and got an early start on the laundry.  It was a beautiful morning as the sun was coming up; the sky was a soft blue with a few white fluffy clouds.  I had a praise time there looking out across the pasture as I witnessed God’s beautiful creation.  Then as I picked up John’s shirt I began praying for him and his life, then Jacob’s shorts, Jared’s shirt, etc. . . .   I realized the blessing of being out there that morning and being able to pray for my family.  I was even looking forward to getting up early on Thursday to do laundry again.  It made me think about the blessings we miss in our fast paced, high technology world.

Our washer belt arrived in the mail on Thursday, so when Mark gets time he will put that on.  I know I will enjoy again being able to open the door of the washer, throw the clothes in, put in the soap, press the button, and walk away.  But I am thankful for having this week of experiencing washing the clothes by hand and being able to focus on God and His creation early in the morning and praying for my family as I scrubbed the dirt and grime out of their clothes.

I encourage you to seek God in all of your life experiences and even look for blessings when God throws changes into your daily routine.
